Zinnia Cut

As discussed  several  times  in  this  book, Lapidary is more than a skill, it’s a real art. Gabi Tolkowsky, a member of probably the world’s  most famous family of Lapidaries was hired by  De Beers to create a group of original flower cuts  during the late 1980’s and 90’s. 

Of the collection he created, my favourite by far  is the Zinnia Cut (also the name of a flower).  With 25 facets on the crown and 48 facets on  the  pavilion,  the  arrangement  of  the  facets  really brings a Diamond to life.  Because of its  shape, the cut also retains more weight than the  traditional brilliant cut.
