Pseudochromatic

The array of beautiful colours we see in natural  gemstones can be created by one of three events:

Firstly, they can be due to the inherent chemical  make-up of the crystal; these gems are known as  idiochromatic. 

Secondly,  gems  coloured  by  the  presence  of  impurities are known as allochromatic. 

Finally, when a gem’s colour is caused by optical  properties  within  the  gem  and  its  reflection  from, or just under its surface, this is known as a  pseudochromatic gem.

Labradorite can be known as a pseudchromatic

gemstone because of the play of colour beneath the surface.
