Mounting

Mounting is the component of a piece of  jewellery which holds the gemstone. An analogy  would be to compare it to the frame around a  precious painting. More often than not, the terms  mounting and setting are used interchangeably.  If applied logically however, just as you mount  a horse, you would mount a gem and it would sit  in a setting!
