Locket

Lockets are  normally  pendants  or  charms  that have a hinge and open up to reveal something  of personal value to their owner.

In  the  Victorian  era,  lockets  became  very  popular, and after the invention of photography  in the mid 1800’s, photos of loved ones were  frequently  placed  inside.  Prior  to  this  period,  lockets  often  held  hairs  of  loved  ones,  ashes  from deceased relatives and even powders and  poisons!

Often hung from a chain, lockets can come in  a variety of shapes, sizes and metals. They are  a popular gift for occasions such as weddings,  Valentine’s Day, christenings and birthdays.
