Phosphosiderite Gemstone

With a colour similar to that of the stunning  purple Thai Orchid, Phosphosiderite’s name is derived from its make up of phosphorous and  iron oxide.

Until recently, as this gem is very soft, it has not  been set in jewellery.  However by stabilising it through the use of treatment, its hardness can be  increased  making  it  more  durable.  As  the  gem’s wonderful opaque purple lustre makes a perfect  companion  to Amethyst,  the  designers at Annabella are currently experimenting with setting Cabochon cut stabilised Phosphosiderite  alongside Amethyst in a collection of earrings and pendants.

Phosphosiderite  can  be  found  in  Cornwall England, Columbia, Chile, Canada, Brazil and several other mining locations around the world.
