Garnet was said to be available in “all colours except blue”. That is, until its discovery in 1998 in the Bekily mines located in south Madagascar. What is even more exceptional about this gem is that it is a colour change gemstone - similar to Alexandrite - but in this instance the change is from a blue to a stunning purplish pink.
Similar to Malaia Garnet, the gem is a blend between Pyrope and Spessartine Garnets. The colour change is more pronounced than that of Alexandrite and is caused by the presence of vanadium.
